Accessibility statement

Our standard

We build to WCAG 2.1, level AA — the standard the European Accessibility Act (in force since 28 June 2025) and the Dutch government also refer to. That is our starting point for everything we deliver, and this site holds itself to the same bar.

What we do on this site

In concrete terms that means:

• Fully operable with the keyboard alone, with a visible focus indicator.
• Semantic HTML with a logical heading structure, so a screen reader can follow the layout.
• Readable without JavaScript — all content is there even with scripts turned off.
• No meaning conveyed by colour alone; text contrast meets level AA.
• A Display panel in the header: larger text, extra contrast, a dyslexia-friendly typeface with wider line and letter spacing, a calm view without decoration or unannounced motion, and motion off. Saved on your device.
• Light and dark themes, respect for your system preference for reduced motion, and moving elements you can pause.

How we test this

We build semantically — with the right HTML elements and a logical heading structure — so screen readers can read the layout out well, and the whole site is operable with the keyboard alone. On every change automated checks run in our pipeline: a WCAG rule scan (axe) on every page in both the light and the dark theme, and a virtual screen reader that walks the reading order, headings and labelled form fields on every page. On top of that, everything stays readable without JavaScript.

Those automated tests catch a lot, but they do not replace a real screen reader or a person with lived experience. This statement is therefore a self-assessment: there is not yet an independent audit by an external party, and not yet a test with real assistive technology by people who rely on it daily. As soon as that changes, we will note it here.

Known limitations

At this moment we know of no parts of this site that fail to meet our standard. Accessibility is never finished: if you notice that something does not work with your assistive technology or setting, that is a fault for us to fix, not an exception to defend.
