Live

Sovereign location sharing with your loved ones — privacy-first and fully in-house.

What & why

See on a map where your loved ones are — with places, arrival and departure notifications and reverse geocoding, as a web PWA and a real Android app. It runs fully in-house (self-hosted on Traccar): the permissions decide who may see whom, and there is no tech giant in between.

Sharing your location with loved ones should not mean handing it to a tech giant. We wanted it sovereign and privacy-first: self-hosted, with control over who sees what, and just as good on the phone as in the browser. Important enough to make the code public — open source as Baken.

Approach

  1. A lightweight viewer built on Leaflet 1.9.4 with OpenStreetMap tiles.
  2. Reverse geocoding, saved places and arrival/departure notifications added.
  3. PWA with version polling, so a new version announces itself on its own.
  4. A real Android .apk (Capacitor) that loads the live site in a WebView.

Technology

  • Leaflet 1.9.4
  • OpenStreetMap
  • PWA
  • Capacitor (Android)
  • Vanilla JS
